On September 2, 2024, the 2nd Sakeology Seminar in AY2024, “What will happen? Niigata’s weather – Abnormal weather is no longer abnormal -,” was held. In the seminar, HONDA Akiharu, Ph.D., Professor of the Faculty of Science, Cooperating Faculty Member of the Sakeology Center, gave a lecture on his research.

Dr. Honda explained that while Niigata is a region with abundant and rich water, it has a history of frequent natural disasters, which have been supported by regional community efforts, and that in recent years, with global warming, the number of unprecedented disasters has been increasing every year, which, combined with the decline in regional community power, has made it impossible to support the region. Dr. Honda introduced the importance of creating resilient regional communities to disasters and environmental changes and passing them on to the next generation, as well as the efforts to address these issues.

The 3rd Sakeology Seminar in FY2024 is scheduled for December 2024.
*The Sakeology Seminar is open to the faculty members and staff of Niigata University.
