The 3rd Sakeology Seminar in FY2022, “Medicines (hyakuyaku) in sake, peptides” and “The challenge of wellness business: for the brilliance of life,” was held

On September 22, 2022, the 3rd Sakeology Seminar in FY2022 was held.

This seminar was held in a hybrid format (on-site and via Zoom) at the Library Hall of Niigata University Central Library, with invited lecturers SATO Kenji, Ph.D., Professor of Marine Biological Function, Division of Applied Biosciences, Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University, and SHIBATA Hiroshi, Ph.D., Director, Senior Managing Executive Officer, Suntory Wellness Ltd.

Dr. SATO Kenji gave a lecture titled “Medicines (hyakuyaku) in sake, peptides,” introducing various physiological functions of peptides (pyroglutamyl peptides) contained in sake via the intestinal tract and the hepatoprotective effects of phenethylamine.

 

 

Dr. SHIBATA Hiroshi gave a lecture entitled “The challenge of wellness business: for the brilliance of human life,” in which he introduced Suntory Wellness Ltd.’s research and development, including the recently revealed anti-inflammatory mechanism of sesamin, a valuable ingredient of sesame seeds.

 

The “Sakeology Seminar” is generally a seminar only for faculty and staff of Niigata University.
This was a special seminar with guest lecturers and was attended by Niigata University faculty and staff, as well as Niigata University students and the general public.

The 4th Sakeology Seminar in FY2022 is scheduled for January 2023.
