A collaborative agreement was established between Niigata Prefecture, Niigata Sake Brewers Association, and Niigata University.

This agreement sought to establish Sakeology as an academic discipline that encompasses the wide-ranging cultural and scientific aspects of sake and set up an international hub for this discipline.
