The 3rd Sakeology Seminar in AY 2021, “Architecture and urban space related to sake – Sake breweries, ryotei, and kagai,” was held

On September 15, 2021, the 3rd Sakeology Seminar in AY2021, “Architecture and urban space related to sake – Sake breweries, ryotei, and kagai,” was held. In the seminar, OKAZAKI Atsuyuki, Ph.D., Professor of the Faculty of Engineering, Cooperating Faculty Member of Sakeology Center, gave a lecture on his research.
Dr. OKAZAKI Atsuyuki lectured on the importance of sake breweries, where sake is produced, and ryotei (*1) and kagai (*2), where it is consumed, as landscapes that symbolize Japanese culture and as tourism resources, from the perspective of urban planning, which is his research area.

*1 ryotei :
Traditional Japanese restaurant
It is a workplace of geigi (Japanese females trained in traditional Japanese performing arts styles such as dance, music, and proficient hospitality) and is located in a place called kagai

*2 kagai :
The place where all kinds of traditional Japanese culture are inherited, such as sake, cuisine, dance, music, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, costume, traditional alleys, and architectures

* Sakeology Seminar is open to the faculty and staff of Niigata University.
